14th Otology & Neuro-Otology Course

This is the second longest running instructional course in the SGH ENT Fortnight program. This is the 14th edition and brings back the popular course that focuses on equipping ENT specialists and Residents in training with the hands on surgical skills needed for Temporal Bone dissection. It is a 2 day long program that mixes a collection of lectures with hands on dissection on cadaveric temporal bones. Up to 2 temporal bones will be provided for each participant. State of the art laboratory facilities and microscopes will be provided together with microsurgical instruments. Faculty will be on hand to supervise the dissections of individual participants.

Course Objectives and Cadaveric Dissections:

Upon completion of the course, the participants will be able to perform the following dissections under supervision:

  • 1. Canalplasty
  • 2. Tympanoplasty
  • 3. Cortical Mastoidectomy
  • 4. Posterior tympanotomies
  • 5. Cochleostomies
  • 6. Modified Radical Mastoidectomy
  • 7. Subtotal Petrosectomy
  • 8. Fisch Type A Infratemporal Fossa Approach
  • 9. Translabyrinthine Approach to the CPA

There will also be opportunities to attempt stapedotomies with stapes pistons and ossiculoplasties with Partial Ossicular Replacement Prostheses as well as to insert dummy cochlear implant electrodes.
